Do Kalakaar" play highlights tragic reality of creativity in Natrang's Sunday Theatre Series

JAMMU, Dec 17: In the latest installment of Natrang's weekly Sunday Theatre series, the play "Do Kalakaar," written by Bhagwati Charan Verma and directed by Neeraj Kant, captivated the audience at Natrang Studio. Infused with humor, the play delivered a poignant message about the challenges faced by creative individuals in a society that often fails to appreciate their artistic contributions.
The play revolves around the characters 'Churamani' and 'Martand,' two friends who are aspiring artists-one a poet and the other a painter. Initially, both dreamt of conquering Bollywood with their creative prowess, envisioning the poet becoming the top Hindi film lyricist and the painter becoming the most sought-after art director. However, destiny takes an unexpected turn, forcing them to channel their creative energies into fabricating stories and situations to escape the harassment of their unpaid landlord.
The playwright skillfully portrays the tragic fate of creative individuals who, instead of using their talents to create magic, find themselves compelled to create excuses merely to survive. Locked in a room, the poet and the painter face the landlord's persistent attempts to collect unpaid rent. The play unfolds as they desperately try to impress the landlord with logical excuses, dreaming of turning their rented room into a museum that once hosted great geniuses of poetry and painting.
As their dreams clash with reality, the landlord sees through their deception, rejecting their arguments and evicting them from the room. The harsh realization dawns upon the poet and the painter that, despite a civilization spanning thousands of years, the world remains indifferent to the struggles of creative souls.
The Natrang artists delivered a stellar performance, featuring Aadesh Dhar, Abhimanyu Choudhary, Sumit Bandaral, Chaitanya Shekhar, Anand Verma, and Sonali Sharma. The play's ambiance was enhanced by the expert execution of lights by Neeraj Kant and the impeccable sound design by Kushal Bhat.
"Do Kalakaar" not only entertained the audience with its humor but also served as a mirror reflecting the challenges faced by creative minds in a society that often fails to recognize their worth. Natrang's Sunday Theatre series continues to bring thought-provoking plays that entertain and enlighten the audience on various aspects of life and society.
