Dramatic robbery in New Plots area

Jammu, Feb 13: In what can be described as Bollywood thriller replay, three mobike borne youths looted ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a jewelry shop here this evening
The robbers were armed with sophisticated small arm weapons and they fired shots at an employee of the shop before running away. It happened in a most dramatic style in New Plot area of the City just a few yards away from Police search point.
According to eyewitnesses and the shop owners, there was a scuffle between strange groups of youth on main road of New Plots at around 8PM which caught attention of entire market. While shopkeepers and other passersby were witnessing the scuffle, in the melee three youths entered a shop known as Suri Jewelers and brought the shutters down from inside. The neighbouring shopkeepers did not take note of it normally it was time to shut the shop and they presumed that owners were calling it a day.
According to shop owners, Sohan Lal Suri and his son Ajay Suri, they were taken hostage by three youths on gunpoint inside the shop. “Keeping us on the gunpoint they started stuffing ornaments in a bag”, said the Suris. They added that when their employee Bodhraj alias Kalu tried to raise an alarm, the robbers opened fire at him and left him badly injured.
They said that the robbers stuffed gold and other ornaments worth more than Rs 30 lakhs in a bag and a pre-rehearsed manner opened the shutter while keeping inmates on gun point in matter of second brought the shutter down.
The shop owners raised a hue and cry after the robbers had left the spot. By this time the scuffle was over and the neighbouring shopkeepers attended to the robbed Suris.
Eye witnessed told a visiting team of Early Times that the robbers had come from Janipur side and ran towards City after robbing the shop.
A police team led by SSP Manohar Singh reached the spot and an investigation had begun in the case.
