| DyCM announces award for Presidents of MCs | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 14 –The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand has said that in a democratic set up all those connected with Local Bodies have to play a vital role in providing immediate basic civic amenities to the people. The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a high level meeting of officers of Local Bodies, Kashmir and Presidents of Municipal Committees of the Kashmir division at SKICC here today. He said the government would provide all facilities for ensuring timely completion of civic works by providing adequate funds wherever it is required. Tara Chand impressed upon the Local Bodies authorities and Presidents of Municipal Committees to supervise the development works and maintain close rapport with connected agencies so that the works are completed within the scheduled period. “We are not against the officers but any laxity found in execution of development works will not be tolerated, Mr. Tara Chand said, adding that those officers would be encouraged by the Government who will perform satisfactorily. He urged the concerned to make concerted efforts also for creating financial sources for their respective committees. The Deputy Chief Minister announced best Presidents award for Municipal Committee Presidents for their outstanding performance. Tara Chand said that an officers committee would be constituted to open tenders so that the works are allotted to the concerned executing agencies. This step, he said, would ensure speedy disposal of tenders and the executing agencies could start work immediately. Giving resume of various civic works, the Director, Local Bodies, Kashmir said that an amount of over Rs. 61 crore have been sanctioned under Integrated Housing Slum Development Project (IHSDP) for 13 towns of the Kashmir division for creating basic infrastructure and providing amenities to the people. It was also informed in the meeting that 822 development works are under execution costing Rs. 7.15 crore under different schemes which include IDMT, UDS, UIDSSMT, IHSDP, SJSRY, LCS and constituency development schemes. The meeting was further informed that income to the tune of Rs. 11.92 crore have been generated locally by Municipal Committees during the previous fiscal year while as Rs. 7.83 crore were generated upto December 2008. It was disclosed in the meeting that 931 low cost sanitation units have been sanctioned for Ganderbal town. The representatives of various Members of Municipal Committees putforth their demands and raised various issues including construction of Community Halls at Chrar-i-Sharief and Sumbal, revival of Municipal Act, enhancement of funds under Urban Development sector and construction of garbage dumping site at Magam. Responding to the demands, the Deputy Chief Minister assured the Members that the demands putforth by them would be given due consideration. He announced rupees one lakh for construction of sanitary units at Bus Stand, Khan Sahib. Earlier, a deputation of Urban Local Bodies Employees Union, Kashmir met the Deputy Chief Minister. The deputationists apprised him about their problems and grievances.. The Deputy Chief Minister assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into. |
