| DCC accuses Panthers of blackmail, opportunism | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, Feb 14- Coming down heavily upon the unpredictable Panthers party for resorting to the politics of sheer opportunism and cheap blackmailing during the Rajya Sabha elections here yesterday, Bhupinder Singh Pathania, President District Congress Committee Udhampur said that it was but obvious that the legislators of NPP have voted in favour of the PDP candidate in lieu of handsome pay offs. Reviewing the developments at an emergency meeting of the DCC at Udhampur today, Pathania demanded a high level probe by investigating agency into the matter as the very essence and edifice of the institution of the Legislature has been denigrated and debased. ‘It seems that by resorting to brazen politics of horse-trading, the Panthers have been trying to make good the lavish expenditure incurred by them during the recently held assembly elections’, he added. Pathania regretted that the Panthers party legislators had resorted to worst politics of caste, money and muscle power in their respective segments while campaigning for themselves and also charged it for having a track history of corruption and blackmail adding that the unholy act on their part is an offshoot of their past record and mental make up. The Congress leader has called upon the Panthers Chief Prof Bhim Singh to come out with a value judgment statement on the issue and rather the civil society of Jammu a clarification from his party as to whether his party expresses solidarity with the PDP which during the past few years had held hostage the entire state and stoked fires of regionalism and communalism among the people of the state by propagating disastrous gospels like self rule, double currency and return of land given to the Shrine Board. ‘If the Panthers could not act as one group during the Rajya Sabha elections, how could the Jammu people come to believe that they would fight for the cause of Jammu on one united plank? Pathania asked. |
