| Gujjars demand representation in Legislative Council | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 14- Expressing grave resentment for neglecting the Gujjars in every field, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Scheduled Tribe Cell, today appealed the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah to give proper representation to the community in the decision making bodies including the Legislative Council. The Cell in its meeting held under the chairmanship of its senior leader Choudhary Gulzar Ahmed felt that the community has been deprived of its rights during the last 48 years and maintained that it was only in 1962 when the former Prime Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed had given representation to Ch. Noor Mohammed in the Legislative Council. The meeting observed that while the Gujjar community has all along supported the National Conference, but in spite of assurances nothing has been done to meet the aspirations of the community. Addressing the meeting Ch.Gulzar advised the authorities in power not to go by the wrong propaganda being unleashed by the self interested persons and instead consider the just and genuine demand of giving representation to the community in the Legislative Council. The meeting, among others, was attended by Ch. Salam Din, State General Secretary, Haji Mohammed Yusuf, district president, Ramban, Ch. Mohammed Shafi district president Kishtwar, Ch. Baji Block president Drabshalla, Ghulam Mustafa district secretary Doda and Ch. Allah Ditta. |
