| Up air frequency: Jora urges Praful | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, FEB 14: The Minister for Tourism and Culture Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today called on Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Mr. Praful Patel here and requested him for operating more flights to the State as well as starting early construction of Airport Terminal at Leh. The construction of terminal building at Leh has already been approved by the Central Government and Rs. 112 crore would be spent on the project. Patel assured Mr. Jora that necessary steps would be taken for immediate construction of the terminal building. Jora met the Union Minister on the sidelines of the twin functions of inauguration of first international flight from Srinagar International Airport and connecting Anantnag with Baramulla district by rail. During the meeting, Mr. Jora also took up the issue of increasing the frequency of both domestic and international flights so that more tourists visit the State. He also told the Union Minister that the State Government has taken numerous steps to improve and upgrade tourism-related infrastructure so that the State is able to absorb heavy inflow of tourists. Jora apprised Mr. Patel about the tourism potential of Ladakh region and informed him that the economy of the region mostly depends upon tourism industry. He urged the Minister to take up on priority the issue of increasing the weekly flights from one to three from Srinagar to Leh, adding the same would give fillip to the tourism potential of the region. The Union Minister agreed to the suggestion of Mr. Jora and assured him that all initiatives would be taken to increase flights from Srinagar to Leh, adding that during the forthcoming season, three flights would operate so that maximum number of domestic as well as foreign tourists from Kashmir also visit Ladakh. |
