GDC Sidhra promotes gender equality through Essay Competition

JAMMU, Dec 23: In alignment with India's ambitious vision to attain developed nation status by 2047, the Department of Sociology at Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra organized an insightful Essay Writing Competition centered around the pivotal theme of 'Women's Rights.' The competition, conducted under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as part of the Viksit Bharat @ 2047 initiative, aimed to stimulate thoughtful discussions on the empowerment of women as a catalyst for societal progress.
Recognizing the transformative potential of empowering women, the competition sought to promote critical thinking and discourse on the subject of women's rights, envisioning a future where gender equality is not merely an ideal but a tangible reality by the year 2047. Students from various semesters passionately participated in the competition, showcasing their commitment to advancing the cause of women's rights.
The essays submitted by the participants reflected deep insights into the multifaceted dimensions of women's development across sectors such as education, workforce, governance, and societal norms. The competition encouraged students to propose concrete steps towards fostering empowerment and equality, fostering a vision of a more inclusive and just world.
The adjudication of the competition was conducted by Dr. Rudrika Khajuria, Head of the Department of English, and Dr. Indu Koul, Lecturer in the Department of English. After a closely contested competition, Ritika Sharma of Semester V secured the first position, while the second position was shared by Stanzin Thupstan of Semester V and Ambika Sharma of Semester III. Sabrina Rafiq of Semester I secured the third position.
The program was skillfully organized by Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Head of the Department of Sociology, under the guidance of the esteemed Principal of the college, Dr. B.B. Anand. Dr. Anshu Gupta, Head of Environmental Science, and Dr. Anu Sharma, Head of Botany, also played integral roles in contributing to the success of the program.
The Principal congratulated the winners and commended all participants for their valuable contributions, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering a more equitable and just society. The successful event showcased the college's commitment to nurturing a generation of students actively engaged in promoting positive societal change.
