Kisan Diwas celebrated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba

SAMBA, Dec 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu celebrated Kisan Diwas or National Farmers' Day on December 23, 2023. The programme was conducted to honour the farmers of district Samba and mark the birth anniversary of the nation's fifth Prime Minister, Lt. Choudhary Charan Singh under the patronship of Professor. Bhupinder Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and the direct supervision of Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu. The programme was attended by more than 200 farmers from different villages of district Samba.
On this occasion, Prof. Sushil Kumar Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu was the chief guest while Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension and Dr. Vikas Tandon, Dean FoH&F were the guests of honour. Prof. Sushil Kumar Gupta appreciated the efforts of KVK Samba led by Prof. Sanjay Khajuria and his team for conducting such a Mega event for the farmers of the district. He urged upon the farming community to remain in touch with the KVK Samba for any technical help in order to boost their economy.
Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension also appreciated the efforts of Prof Sanjay Khajuria Head, KVK Samba and his team for working tirelessly for the benefit of farmers, he applauded the contributions of the farmers and highlighted that they are the ones who put your heart and soul into the soil to give it life and give us food. Dr. Vikas Tandon, Dean FoH&F emphasised upon bringing new technologies to the farmers field to improve their livelihood. The programme was also attended by Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist (Ag. Economics), Darshan Choudhary, BDC Chairman Ramgarh, Pritam Chand, Sarpanch Samlah, Parkash Chand, Member, JK Kissan Advisory Board, Sandeep Chib, President JK Dairy Farmers Federation.
During the Kisan Samman Diwas, Stalls of various exhibits like seeds of different crops as well specimen of the vegetables, beekeeping, millets, dairy products and farm machinery was also displayed for the awareness of the farmers/farm women of the district. The technical bulletins/literature on Natural Farming was also distributed among all the participants for their latest knowledge.
Earlier, Prof. Sanjay Khajuria, Head KVK Samba, welcomed the all the dignitaries as well as farmers/farm women of the district. Dr. Khajuria along with the dignitaries welcomed the farming community by applying tilak with showers of flowers petals which was highly appreciated by the farming community. He throws a detail light on the importance of celebrating Kisan Diwas as well as on the history of Kisan Diwas.
During the programme, Dr. Neerja Sharma, Senior Scientist (Horticulture), Dr Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist (Ag. Engineering), Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist (Entomology), Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma delivered various expert lectures on different topics. A farmer-scientist interaction was also held on the occasion. Other who actively assisted and makes the event successful includes Bharat Bhushan Stenographer and Pawandeep Singh of the KVK Samba.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Saurav Gupta and vote of thanks presented by Dr. A.K. Sinha.
