12/24/2023 10:29:53 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 24: The BJP government at the Centre has pushed Jammu and Kashmir into unprecedented political uncertainty due to its inability to maintain law and order in the Union Territory.
This was stated by Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary and former minister while addressing a meeting of Party cadre of Jammu East Block at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC, Jammu was also present.
Ajay Kumar Sadhotra sharply criticized the government at the Centre for its failure to ensure the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir's citizens. He drew attention to the increase in targeted killings and consistent attacks on the armed forces, pointing out the significant discrepancy between the BJP leadership's claims of 'normalcy' in J&K and the actual situation on the ground.
The former minister said that the recent tragic incident in Surankote area of Poonch district, wherein five courageous soldiers were martyred, is a stark reminder of the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The violent attack outside a mosque, coupled with the killing of a retired Senior Superintendent of Police, has shaken the local community and raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians and former law enforcement personnel, he said, adding that these distressing events emphasize the pressing need for a comprehensive and effective strategy to restore peace and stability in the Union Territory.
Sadhotra said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve security, peace, and a return to normalcy, and it is imperative for the government at the Centre to prioritize their safety and well-being.
The meeting was presided over by Ashwani Charak Block President Jammu East.
Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban, apprised the senior functionaries about the problems being faced by the people of East Block with regard to shortage of basic amenities like scarcity of power and water supply, civic amenities, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC, Jammu, termed it unfortunate that people were being subjected to immense suffering for want of basic amenities in absence of popular government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that due to lack of vision and wrong policies of the government, people of J&K are facing a crisis like situation with each segment of society feeling abject neglect. The present government has failed to ensure delivery at the basic levels like availability of ration, power, health, education sector and unemployment.
Rattan Lal asserted that the governance failures writ large in almost every field, adding to the miseries of each and every section of the society. He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are fed with hollow policies of government as it promised the moon but delivered nothing. He lamented that the common people are today crying hoarse for basic amenities and the government seems to be least bothered.
The Provincial President urged party cadre to take proactive steps in strengthening the party's at the grassroots level. He encouraged party members to engage in outreach programs, community initiatives, and to actively listen to the needs of the people in order to build a stronger and more responsive political organization that truly represents the voices of the citizens.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, JKNC, Jammu, asked people of East Constituency to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah as the National Conference alone can steer Jammu and Kashmir to peace, progress and political stability.
