Prime Minister Narendra Modi commends young innovators at Smart India Hackathon finale

Jalandhar, Dec. 23: The grand finale of the Ministry of Education’s ‘Smart India Hackathon (SIH)-2023’ took place at Lovely Professional University (LPU), focusing on innovative hardware solutions to address water management challenges identified by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Over the span of five days, from December 19th to 23rd, 36 teams from across the country participated in this prestigious event.
Held at LPU’s Innovation Studio, SIH-2023 showcased outstanding talent and creativity. The competition aimed at developing cost-effective projects to tackle water management issues, with problem statements provided by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
In a remarkable display of ingenuity, teams ‘TechTitans’ Hydra and ‘VERE Error 404’ secured the top spots, earning cash awards of Rs One Lakh each. The ‘Mission Impossible’ and ‘TEAM VISSION’ teams excelled in the “Call for Toilet Technology” category, while ‘TECH TITANS-6’ presented a noteworthy solution for the safe disposal of menstrual waste. ‘VECE - ERROR 404’ proposed technological solutions for the early decomposition of faecal matter, and in the “Call for low-cost desalination technology” category, ‘GREEN TECH WATER DISTILLER & Automation Achievers’ and ‘REVERATE & SAJAL’ were declared joint winners.
LPU, recognized as one of the nodal centers for the competition by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and All India Council for Technical Education, played a pivotal role in hosting the event. During his interaction with the young innovators, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended their problem-solving capabilities and ingenuity.
The awards ceremony, attended by LPU Pro Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Lovi Raj Gupta and Prof. Dr. Sanjay Modi, saw winning teams receive cash awards of up to Rs 1 lakh, along with certificates. Abhishek Ranjan, Nodal Officer from the Ministry of Education (Government of India), oversaw the proceedings of the Hackathon.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) stands as the world’s largest open innovation model, fostering a culture of product innovation and problem-solving among students. The competition, conducted annually in two editions, SIH Software and SIH Hardware, showcases the commitment to empowering girls and promoting innovation among them.
The success of ‘Smart India Hackathon-2023’ at Lovely Professional University reflects a significant milestone in nurturing India’s young talent and encouraging them to find solutions to real-world challenges. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with its partners, remains dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students, contributing to the nation’s brighter future.
In its 6th edition, exclusively in the Hardware Hackathon format, SIH-2023 witnessed an overwhelming response, with 44,617 teams from across the country submitting 51,071 innovative ideas. The inclusion of female students in each team underscores the commitment to gender empowerment and innovation promotion.
