| Peerzada for upholding State's unique culture | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 15 - Describing culture as the adhesive that binds together different communities, Minister for Education and Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today asked people to uphold these values that has given our nation a unique place in the world community.
The Minister was speaking at Kashmir Day Function, organised by Pir Panchal, a socio-cultural group, at Abhinav Theatre, here this evening.
Highlighting the distinct cultural heritage of all the three regions of the State which have co-existed by giving space to each other, Peerzada said a race retains its identity only by preserving its culture. He cited the example of Kashmiri Pandit community, which has long been displaced from Kashmir Valley, but have held on to their roots and cultural values.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Cultural Academy, Mr. Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that Academy is striving to bring the State onto the international map by promoting its culture, art and literature. He added that the Academy will provide people with an opportunity to exhibit their talent at the highest level. He praised Pir Panchal cultural group for its contribution in culture both at national and international level.
Earlier Ramesh Hangloo, President, Pir Panchal, gave a detailed resume of the organization. He said that the Western culture has gone broke because of values which hover around materialism. He demanded inclusion of Sharda script in school curriculum.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion in which participants from various schools and cultural groups participated.
The Minister later presented Abhinav Gupt Awards, 2009 to Prof. O. N. Changoo, and annual awards to Mr. Vijay Malla, renowned signer, Mr. Ajay Bachloo, Mr. Rajinder Kichloo, Lensman, Take 1, Mr. Manas Sharma RJ, 92.7 FM, Mr. Kuldeep Safroo Music Composer & Director, Mr. J. K. Koul Bezan, writer and actor and to all the participating schools and cultural clubs.
