| SKUAST organizes awareness programme on urban farming in fruit crops | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: Advanced Centre for Horticulture Research, Udheywalla, SKUAST-Jammu working under the able leadership and patronage of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu andDr Sushil Kumar Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu successfully conducted the Awareness programme on "One Day Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Urban Farming in Fruit Crops".
Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu and Dr Vikas Tandon, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-Jammu appreciated the untiring efforts of the organizers for organizing this awareness programme for the benefit of the Farming community.
The coordinator of the programme Dr Akash Sharma, Associate Professorwelcomed the participants and informed that the programme was convened under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme on "Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agricultural extension" operational at SKUAST-Jammu. The aim of the programme is to impart scientific knowledge on the techniques for cultivation of rooftop/urban/container growing of fruit crops. A total number of 100 participants from Udheywalla, Talab tillo and Marh were participated and registered themselves with the awareness programme. He addressed the participants about the future prospects and the technology developed by SKUAST-Jammu for Urban/rooftop farming in fruit crops. The other lectures were delivered by Dr Vishal Gupta (Associate professor) on plant protection management for rooftop grown fruit plants. Sandeep Gupta, DLSMS Jammu highligtened the Government sponsored schemes to the fruit growers and stressed upon the terrace gardening of fruit crops. Pushap Dev Uppal shared his experience of rooftop fruit growing and suggested the participants to grow atleast one fruit plant for their family members.
The Co-ordinator of the awareness programme Prof. Pradeep K. Rai stressed upon the organic nutrient management of container grown fruit crops and ended the programme with vote of thanks to the Mohinder Kumar, Ex-Corporator Udheywalla, Pushap Dev uppal, Ex president Non-teaching SKUAST Jammu and officials from Department of Horticulture, Sandeep Gupta, District Level Subject Matter Specialist, Jammu, Ragunath Upadhaya DLSMS, Kathua, Amit Saraf, HDO, Khour and other stakeholders. |
