VIJAYPUR, Dec 28: As part of the 'Viksit Bharat@2047' initiative, the Environmental Sciences Department of Government Degree College Vijaypur organized a student visit to the nearby pond (Rahya Suchani) with a special focus on cleaning and rejuvenating water bodies. The visit, conducted under the flagship banner, aimed to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among students and actively involve Eco-Club volunteers in the process.
Led by faculty members, namely Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences), Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri), and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (HOD English), the students engaged in a cleanliness drive as part of their semester-I practical. The visit provided an opportunity for Environmental Sciences students to explore various physico-chemical and biological characteristics of the pond.
Prof. Poonam Kundan emphasized the main objectives of the visit, including safeguarding the environment through initiatives like rainwater harvesting structures, pond restoration, and PET bottle recycling. Eco-Club volunteers actively raised public awareness about water conservation, addressing the crucial need to increase people's understanding of water resources and the importance of water conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta, the Principal of the College, commended the Environmental Sciences department for such impactful initiatives. She highlighted that practical experiences like these allow students to learn actively and contribute to environmental preservation. The one-day tour was well-coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan and co-coordinated by Dr. Manoj Heer and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary.
The event also included the distribution of refreshments, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among the participants. The initiative reflects the college's commitment to practical education and environmental stewardship, creating a positive impact on both students and the local community.
