Govt SPMR College of Commerce hosts mindfulness therapy session

JAMMU, Dec 28: In an effort to address the growing challenges of managing personal and professional demands, the Manodarpan Psychological and Career Counselling Cell of Govt. SPMR College of Commerce Jammu organized an insightful session on 'Mindfulness Therapy.' The event, held recently, aimed to provide students and teachers with effective strategies to cope with stress and enhance overall well-being.
The session was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. Surinder Kumar, who shared his experiences and highlighted the common struggles faced by both teachers and students in balancing various aspects of life. Emphasizing the importance of the interactive session, Dr. Kumar expressed hope that it would contribute to nurturing the well-being of all participants.
Prof. Ashu Manhas, Convener of the Manodarpan Career Counselling Cell, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, encouraging students to derive maximum benefit from the session. The resource person for the event was Ambica, a Clinical Psychologist from the Wellbeing Counselling Centre. Ambica motivated students to prioritize mental health, emphasizing its positive impact on various aspects of life.
During the interactive session, Ambica delved into the concept of Mindfulness Therapy, introducing various therapeutic techniques to alleviate anxiety, stress, and depression. Techniques such as deep breathing, thought observation, and body scan were discussed to equip students with practical tools for managing their mental well-being.
The event saw a significant turnout, with around 54 students actively participating in the program. Prominent figures present included Prof. Pawan Kumar Gupta (HOD Commerce), Dr. Chetna, Prof. Binny, and Dr. Iesha.
Prof. Ashu Manhas took charge of organizing and managing the entire event as the Convener of the Manodarpan Psychological and Career Counselling Cell. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Fayza, and a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Jagmeet Kaur, acknowledging the collective effort put into making the session informative and impactful. The college remains committed to fostering the mental well-being of its students through such valuable initiatives.
