Early Times Report
POONCH, Dec 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Poonch, operating under the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organized a two-day training program on Natural Farming from December 27th to 28th, 2023, as part of the project "Outscaling of Natural Farming through KVKs."
The virtual inauguration of the training program was carried out by Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr. Ajay Gupta, who welcomed the participating farmers. Dr. Gupta highlighted the adverse effects of imprudent and excessive use of chemical fertilizers on soil fertility and beneficial microbes, leading to an unsustainable ecosystem and unstable crop production over the years. In response to these challenges, he advocated for the adoption of Natural Farming as a sustainable and alternative option.
Dr. Muzafar Mir, a Fruit Scientist, elaborated on the scope and status of Natural Farming in horticultural crops. He emphasized the importance of practices like mulching and balanced irrigation in ensuring the health of these crops. Dr. Mushtaq Guroo, Nodal Officer NF, underscored the critical role of good-quality soil harboring beneficial microorganisms for both crop quality and human health. Drawing examples from states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh, he encouraged participants to integrate Natural Farming formulations into their cultivable land.
Throughout the two-day training program, KVK experts delivered lectures on various components and principles of Natural Farming, including Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Keetnashak astra, and Roghnash astra, with a focus on promoting agricultural sustainability.
The participating farmers expressed their appreciation for the training program, acknowledging its significance in enhancing their understanding of Natural Farming. They pledged to prioritize Natural Farming practices, particularly in restoring soil fertility. Dr. Ramandeep Kour, SRF, expressed gratitude to the farmers for their active participation in the training program at KVK Poonch. The initiative reflects a commitment to promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable farming practices in the region.
