| Three-day employees’ strike begins | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 15: Despite assurances and appeals from the government, the employees are all set for fresh round of three-day agitation beginning Monday. Last weekend the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather had said in a meeting with employees that the government was serious about addressing issues but there seems to be no end to the woes of common people of the state as the state government has failed to prevent three-day long strike by state government employees. Though the strike plan was announced by the agitating state government employees agitating in support of implementation of sixth pay commission recommendations well in advance but the state government despite making several efforts seems to have failed to break the ice. During the strike health care services, and routine work across various state government offices and in the civil secretariat would remain affected. According to various leaders of the joint consultative committee and J&K Employees joint action committee the state government in its meeting with the representatives of the state government employees on Friday failed to offer concrete solution to break the deadlock. Following the meeting which remained inconclusive we consulted various factions and decided to go ahead with the strike plan. The employee leaders said that the government appears to be committeed but at the same time they do not have time frame and concrete understanding among themselves on how to deal with the crisis situation. Till late Sunday evening all eyes were on the employees leaders whether they would take a conscious decision to avoid confrontation with the state government espcailly on a day when chief minister Omar Abdullh is scheduled to meet them in last bid effort to pacify the unhappy lot among the employees leaders . It may be mentioned that in the last three weeks the employees have struck down work on two occasions by organsing state wide strike paralysing work in all state government offices from Lakhanpur to Ladakh. As per the fresh schedule the state government employees have decided to organise state wide protest between February 16-18 to further intensify their campaign and during the period if the state government failed to negotiate the state government employees are expected to announce indefinite strike till their demands were met.
