| Over 200 medicos deprived opportunity to compete for PG | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 15: For a faulty examination system and insensitive bureaucratic control, over 200 medicos have been forced to lose a precious year of their career despite rules and eligibility criteria in their favour. The Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BoPEE) is conducting examination for Postgraduate streams of the Medical Sciences (MS/MD) in first week of March but the 2002 batch of MBBS/BDS from Shere-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura and Government College Srinagar is not being allowed to take part even though their application forms stand submitted. A significant number of students in this batch belong to Jammu region and all of them have become victim of the faulty examination system. The eligibility criteria say that candidates should have completed their internship before sitting in the examination. This 2002 batch of medicos is about to complete internship in the middle of March but to their utter surprise, the BoPEE has pre-poned examination to first week of March thus barring them from taking the examination. The aggrieves students say that the BoPEE has advanced the dates under pressure from senior batch the students of which are not interesting in allowing 2002 batch a chance as that would enlarge the competition. “This is clearly against the precedence as in previous years the examination for MD/MS would be held in last week of March and not in first week”, said a student as he added, “this has been apparently done to exclude us from the competition”. The Board of Professional Entrance Commission though accepted their application forms earlier but now these students are being barred from taking examination on the pretext that their internship is not complete. Even though the difference of time between exam and completion of internship is not more than two weeks but their case is further strengthened by the guidelines. The Medical Council of India guidelines provide that such students can produce their clearance at the time counseling. However, this provision has not been factored in by the BoPEE. The aggrieved medicos say that they have been following this case for last one year and the full information regarding the dates of completion of internship has been already given to the Governor’s secretariat (when their was no elected government), Health Secretary, Commissioner Secretary and Chairman, BOPEE and other concerned authorities. It was only after their recommendations that the clause IV was added in the notice for submission of forms just to accommodate Batch-2002 (MBBS & BDS) and to avoid such complications from wasting more time in future. They were allowed to submit application forms on provisional basis, but the examination schedule for two weeks ahead of their completion of internship has come as a setback.
