Early Times Report
RS PURA, Dec 30: GDC R.S. Pura took a proactive stance against climate change by participating in the assembly of Climate Clocks, a symbolic reminder of the urgency to address global warming and its impacts. The event, themed "The Clock Is Ticking - Let's Act In Time," aimed to raise awareness about the critical timeframe before reaching a global warming of 1.5°C.
The Climate Clock serves as a visual representation of the time remaining before the world reaches a global warming of 1.5°C. The countdown is based on the carbon budget and the current rate of carbon emissions globally.
Many people are unaware that irreversible climate change begins when the global warming reaches 1.5°C. The clock signifies that there are approximately 6.5 years left before reaching this critical point, highlighting the urgent need for collective action.
The Viksit Bharat Club, NSS, NCC, and Eco Club of GDC R. S. Pura actively participated in assembling their Climate Clocks. The clocks were then installed in prominent locations within the college buildings to daily remind people of the ticking time and encourage actions for climate correction.
The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the esteemed Principal of GDC R.S. Pura. Dr. Bhagat emphasized the event's alignment with Mission LiFE, advocating for sustainable lifestyles in harmony with nature. She stressed the importance of individual responsibility in reducing energy consumption and making a swift transition towards energy-conscious living.
Dr. Bhagat highlighted that climate change is not a future prediction; it has already occurred. Every individual's contribution to climate change underscores the need for corrective measures. She emphasized that simply adopting green energy sources is insufficient, and limiting consumption while promoting localized energy generation is crucial.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, the Nodal officer for Viksit Bharat, coordinated the event. Faculty members present included Dr. Chanchal Angral (NSS PO), Dr. Rkesh Choudhary (ANO NCC), Prof. Shifali Abrol (Convener Eco Club), Prof. Sudesh Kumar, Prof. Shelley Kalsi, and Prof. Geetika Goswami.
The event concluded with a collective call to action, urging everyone to play a role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and working towards a sustainable future.
