| Next-Gen Computer Con fab conludes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu. Feb 16-The second edition of the National Conference on Next-Generation Computing and Information Systems (NGCIS’09) concluded today at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET). The conference was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (MIET) and sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. During the two day conference more than 35 research papers were presented on cutting-edge topic such as cloud computing, grid computing, peer-to-peer networks, mobile adhoc networks, wireless sensor networks, pervasive computing, quantum computing, bio-inspired computing and the like. The highlights of the conference were the keynote addresses delivered by foremost computer science experts including Prof. R.C Joshi, Senior Professor, Electronics and Communication, IIT Roorkee, Prof. Lalit K. Awasthi, Professor, NIT Hamirpur and Prof. R.B Patel MM University, Mullana and Prof. Ankur Gupta from MIET, Jammu. At the valedictory function Principal, MIET Prof. S.K Sharma presented certificates to delegates who presented papers at the conference. He expressed delight at the successful organization of the conference by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and felt that such events are essential for improving the research capabilities of faculty from the State. Prof. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET in his concluding remarks emphasized that to produce world-class research; the focus has to be on the depth of research issues rather than breadth. He recommended extensive review of existing literature to identify the relevant research problems and providing a strong theoretical and experimental basis for proving the research hypothesis. MIET is a subscriber to the IEEE online journals for its engineering disciplines which are considered the best technical journals in the world. To further improve the quality of research at MIET, the faculty resolved to setup focused research groups and organize weekly “Gyan-Badhao” sessions to disseminate technical information among faculty and students.
