Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 31: In a significant development, the Economic Offences Wing - Crime Branch Jammu has filed a 396-page charge-sheet against Pinky Gupta and Shiv Partap Gupta in connection with a Kitty Party fraud amounting to Rs. 35 lakhs. The accused couple, residents of Green Enclave near J&K Board of School Education, Rehari Colony, Jammu, had allegedly lured individuals to deposit money with promises of hefty returns in the guise of Kitty parties.
The charge-sheet, presented in the Hon'ble Court, details criminal conspiracy, cheating, and defrauding of complainants and other unsuspecting citizens who fell victim to the scam. The allegations were substantiated during the investigation, leading to the formal charges against the accused.
The case originated from a written complaint filed by Smt. Neelam Malhotra and others, stating that the accused duped them and others by collecting money under the pretext of providing attractive returns. After receiving the funds, the accused disappeared by locking their residence and office, leaving victims defrauded of their hard-earned money.
The complaint triggered criminal proceedings against the accused, and a formal FIR was registered at the Police Station, Economic Offences Wing Crime Branch, Jammu. The accused, who were evading arrest by staying outside the UT of J&K, were finally apprehended by the Crime Branch team, bringing them to justice.
The investigation collected substantial material evidence, including oral, documentary, and scientific evidence, establishing the involvement of the accused in the commission of the crime. The case is now closed as Challan, but separate criminal proceedings are being initiated against the accused for their involvement in defrauding other innocent individuals.
This development underscores the efforts of the Crime Branch in tackling financial frauds and reinforces the commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
