| Wakaf Board reconstituted, NC gets major role on Board | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEB 16: In a clear indication that there was no move for revival of the Muslim Auqaf Trust, the government today reconstituted the Muslim Wakaf Board with a major representation to the National Conference. According to an official spokesman, Chairman, Board of Directors for J&K Muslim Specified Wakafs and Wakaf Properties (Chief Minister, J&K), Omar Abdullah has nominated 10 members to the Board in pursuance of the powers vested in him under Section 6 of J&K Muslim Specified Wakafs and Specified Wakaf Properties Act 2004. According to a notification issued by the Law Department, the members include Prof M. Y. Qadri, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Kh. Ghulam Mohiuddin Matoo, Maulana Riyaz Ahmad Hamdani, Ehsan Ahmad Mirza, Maulana Showkat Hussain Keng, Dr. Merajuddin, Abdul Rahim Rather and. Nusrat Andarabi Further, in terms of proviso to sub-section (1) of Section 9 of the said Act, the Chairman has nominated Prof M. Y. Qadri, Member of the Board as Vice Chairman of the Board till the Vice-Chairman is elected formally. By another order and in exercise of the powers vested in the Chairman under clause 25 of J&K Specified Wakafs and Specified Wakaf Properties Bye-Laws, 2004, the Chairman after being satisfied that immediate action was required to be taken, the delay whereof would cause detriment to the interests of the Board, has dispensed with the services of the Chief Executive of the Board forthwith. He has authorised the Vice Chairman of the Board to perform the functions of the Chief Executive, in addition to his own duties, till the Chief Executive of the Board is appointed under Section 18 of the J&K Specified Wakafs and Specified Wakaf Properties (Management and Regulation) Act, 2004. The Chairman has also appointed Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Rather, former Secretary, JKI, as Secretary of the Board. Meanwhile, Rather has assumed the charge as Secretary of the Board today.
