Jammu, Feb 17- At a simple but impressive function the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh was installed at the main crossing near Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station here today. Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Mayor, Kavinder Gupta, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unveiled the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta threw light on the life of Maharaja Hari Singh and described him as great reformer, administrator and visionary. While garlanding the statue of Maharaja, he recalled the late soul for his people friendly initiatives including progressive steps taken by like opening of doors of temples for harijans, uplift of down-trodden, widow marriage, infanticide among Rajputs, discrimination against women, reforms among the Rajput community. Mayor also recalled him for having fostered respect among all religions, besides signing of historic Instrument of Accession linking fate of the J&K State with India in October, 1947. He informed that Dogra Shaurya Sampark will also be inaugurated soon. Narayan Singh, Rajput Sabha president, Corporator Rashida Begum and others were also present on the occasion.
