Reasi police seize 2.24 kg of Cannabis, arrests Narco-Smuggler

REASI, Jan 10: In a significant move to combat the drug menace in the district, the Reasi Police successfully recovered 2.24 kilograms of Cannabis (Charas) during a targeted operation conducted by the Pouni Police Station. The narcotic substance was seized from an Alto car bearing Registration No. JK17-2289 in the Domail area of Pouni.
The police, while on traffic duty, intercepted the vehicle heading from Reasi towards Bhambla and discovered the illicit substance concealed within maize husk in the car's window panels. The driver, identified as Javed Ahmed, a resident of Melhoora, Tehsil Zainapora, District Shopian, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the presence of the narcotics.
The recovered 2.24 kilograms of Cannabis, along with the maize husk wrapping, led to the immediate arrest of Javed Ahmed. A case under FIR No.03/2024 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Pouni Police Station, and further investigations are underway. The operation was executed under the leadership of SHO Pouni, with the supervision of Dy.SP Hqrs. Reasi.
SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta -JKPS, emphasized the commitment of the Reasi Police to eradicate drug abuse. He urged the public to support the ongoing efforts against drugs and encouraged individuals to share any information related to drug peddlers on the 24x7 helpline number 9070907017, assuring the confidentiality of the caller's identity.
