SHARIQ NABI Jammu, Feb 17: Before that engineers could restore Doda and Kishtwar’s communication links with rest of the state, there are fears of another stretch of road sinking. It has been reported that cracks measuring about two inches to two feet were found at Korapani, 29th Km from Batote towards Doda. It is assumed that the area may sink within coming days as it has already cracked and highway may wash away once again. The area is measuring about 150 meters where cracks were found. As the reports triggered panic button, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, today visited the spot and took the stock of position. In this connection when in charge Tehsildar of the concerned area was contacted he said that they have vacated eight families, five from below the highway and three from upper side. However they had packed the cracks and traffic will remain unaffected, added the officer. Speaking of restoration of road at Assar he said that link has been made and within four day road will be through for light motor vehicular traffic. He said that out of total 2.2km stretch 1.5km has been constructed and widened as well. When enquired about the rehabilitation of these families he said that they are searching for suitable location for their rehabilitation till then they were shifted to rented houses. It is worth mentioning that twelve days has been passed since the snapping of road at Assar people already are bearing the cost of it because prices of daily need commodities have accelerated and government is not considering this factor seriously. The administration itself is suggesting the general public for paying Rs 50 as labour charges to compensate the shopper’s transshipment labour.
