| Work completely paralyzed in all Govt offices as employees toughen posture on pay revision | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 17: Bringing the government machinery to a grinding halt for second consecutive day, the unrelenting employees of the state government today warned of extended the ongoing strike by another seven days. The leaders of various unions of employees said that they have no alternative except to take the struggle forward to pressurize the Government. Work remained paralyzed in all government departments and public sector undertakings in Jammu and Kashmir for the second consecutive day on Tuesday due to a three day strike called by government employees demanding implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. While talking to our correspondent speakers of the committee condemned the statement made by Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather in which he was quoted as saying that government can take tough decisions if the employees continue with strike, speakers made it clear that they were on the roads due to the negative and rigid attitude of the present Government. They also said that the government should try to settle the issues instead of indulging in unwarranted confrontations. Over five lakh employees from various Government and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) offices in the State observed complete strike and held demonstrations in their office complexes through out the day. In view employees’ strike on the second consecutive day, the general public and especially the patients in the hospitals badly suffered. The OPDs and operation theatres did not function in all the major hospitals in Jammu and outside. However, the Emergency Wings were allowed to function. Top leadership of the JCC and the main EJAC factions announced third phase of strike programme after observing a cold response from the State Government. These leaders including Nazir Ahmed Mir from Civil Secretariat Non-Gazetted Employees Union, Ram Kumar Sharma (EJAC), Mushtaq Hussain Khan, Ghulam Mehdi, Mohd Khurshid Alam, Pardeep Sharma, Gafoor Dar, Abdul Qayoom Wani, Jaswant Singh, Subash Chander, Ganesh Khajuria, Parshotam Sharma, G L Chanda, Prem Pal Singh, Yash Pal Sharma, Balwan Singh, Suresh Sharma (PSUs) and others criticised the State Government for the cold response and issued appeal to the employees to intensify their united agitation . JCC members while on this occasion appealed to all the employees community to hold protest demonstrations in their respective office complex as the JCC has decided not to hold mass rallies on Feb 18th. The JCC leaders also appealed the employees to remain calm but vigilant against some elements from within and outside who could hatch conspiracies to cause setback to the ongoing struggle. In Civil Secretariat, almost all the offices did not function. The employees from all the offices came out after attendance and assembled in the lawn outside Secretariat building complex, where they held a massive protest demonstration and sat on day long dharna. Several top leaders including NA Mir, S K Sharma, Ghulam Mehdi, Narayan Dutt, Abdul Majid Bhat, Farooq Ahmed Malik, Chaman Lal, Mohd Afzal, Abdul Ahad Nazar and others addressed the gathering. Bhat president Civil Sectt Lower Grade Employees Union and r Mir urged the State Government to announce implementation of 6th Pay Commission report without any delay. They advised the State authorities not to resort to the confrontational path as the general public is suffering in view of strikes. Reminding the Government of its commitment given at various fora for implementation of employees demands, these leaders stated that any further delay in the matter would create an avoidable situation of drift, which may hamper the cordial atmosphere of better employee-employer relations. At Education Department, Satish Sharma, Anil Sharma and others held the protest demonstration, while Pardeep Sharma along with Bishan Verma and Rathore lead the agitation at Medical College. Similarly the protests were held at PHE department, Ranbir Govt Press, Health Departments, PDD, Excise, Irrigation Department and Director Accounts and Treasury.
