REASI, Jan 12: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi publication Released during Foundation Day of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, Zone-1, Innovative Farmer Awarded
A publication on 'Natural Farming-Challenges and Opportunities' of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) released by the dignitaries during the Foundation Day of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, Zone-1 held yesterday at ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana campus. KVK, Reasi is working under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and under the guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Director Extension congratulated KVK, Reasi for releasing the publication during the event and encouraged KVK, Reasi scientists for their efforts on serving the farming community.
The event was enthuastically attended by the agricultural scientists from the states/UTs of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. Overview of the event was presented by the Director, ICAR-ATARI (Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute), Ludhiana, Dr.Parvender Sheoron. He highlighted the achievements of KVKs and encouraged the scientists for their strenuous efforts to serve the farming community. Sr.Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), Dr. Banarsi Lal thanked Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana and Director Extension, SKUAST-J for the encouragement, necessary guidelines and support.
During the event progressive farmer of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), Sh.Tilak Raj, resident of Sirah village of Reasi district (J&K) was bestowed upon with the 'Innovative Farmer Award' for taking a lead in the cultivation, product development and value addition of lemon grass and agricultural/horticultural crops during the ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana Foundation Day. The award was presented by the ICAR-ATARI-Ludhiana for his exceptional contribution and innovations in lemongrass farming.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Sh.Tilak Raj has established lemon grass crop and horticultural crops units in his farm and inspiring the other farmers of the area for the cultivation of lemon grass, agricultural/ horticultural crops production, organic and natural farming etc. He is also the President of FPO formed on lemongrass by SKUAST-J. By observing successful results of Sh.Tilak Raj, many other farmers from other villages are also showing keen interest towards the cultivation of lemon grass, agricultural/ horticultural crops production, organic and natural farming, horticultural crops production etc.
According to Dr.Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi lemon grass is promoted in the monkey affected areas of the district as this crop is not damaged by the monkeys and farmers can fetch more farm returns by growing it. He stressed on the value addition in lemon grass farming especially in the monkey affected areas of the district so as to increase the income of the farmers of hilly areas.Sh.Tilak Raj thanked Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Prof.Amrish Vaid for the timely and necessary guidelines on the scientific cultivation of lemon grass farming, horticultural crops production, organic and natural farming.
