Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Jammu Province observed 6th death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jahan, the wife of Mohammad Abdullah, popularly known as Madr-e-Meharban, as WOMEN’S DAY today. A Quran-Khawani was performed at the party office in the morning to mark the day. Large number of women workers led by former MLA and senior National Conference Women Wing Leader – Bimla Luthra and other Women wing activists took out rallies which passed through various bazaars of Jammu city before cultimating at Sher-e –Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. The main function was held at Party Provincial Headquarters-Sher-e Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu under the Chairmanship of Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu province. Addressing to function Harbans Singh, Sr. Vice President highlighted the service rendered by Begum Akbar Jahan, who had supported Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in all sphere of life. Begum Abdullah not only kept liaison with the grass root level workers but also motivated the women folk to come forward to fight for their rights. She worked restlessly for bringing at par with men in the male dominated society. Ajay Sadhotra while paying tribute to Begum Akbar Jahan termed her as a beacon light of the freedom and a symbol of sacrifices for the upliftment of women folk in the state as and poor particulars. Sadhotra expressed serious concern over the increasing rise in the militancy related activities in the state. Referring to the recent attack on the National Conference rally at Kulgam in which District President Anantnag and former MLA Gh. Nabi Dar lost his life besides injuring Miss Sakina Itoo and several other party workers. He also condemned the today’s attack in Srinagar in which 6 innocent persons have lost their lives. He asked the state Government to take effective measures to curb the rising militancy. While fighting militancy he asked the State Government to strictly adhere to the policy of Prime Minister of Zero Tolerance. Sadhotra hailed the decision of the Chief Minister- Ghulam Nabi Azad for having granted eight districts to the state. He further requested the Government redress the grievances of the left over areas who have been since carving for the status of the Districts or sub- divisions.
