| Academy’s test | | 500 J&K artists to perform in Delhi | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 18 Around 500 artists from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will perform at New Delhi in a week long "Jammu and Kashmir Festival-09" commencing from 23rd of the current month. The state Academy of Art, Culture and Languages is organizing this event in collaboration Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi Giving details of the festival here today The Secretary of the Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that more than 500 artists, film makers, craftsmen and intellectuals from all parts of the state, will take part in this median event to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister in the Union Capital on February 23. The Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, Minister of Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora and other State and Central dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion, Zaffar added. He said prominent artists of Kashmiri, Dogri, Ladakhi, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari, Balti and Shina will perform in this cultural extravaganza. Besides this, the Festival will feature , inter-alia, an Art Exhibition of around 100 Painting Exhibits made by the State Artists, Book Exhibition of the publications brought out by the Academy including first ever Dictionaries in Gojri, Ladakhi, Kashmiri. Another attraction of the festival will be the Film shows in which about three dozen old Kashmiri films and documentaries acquired by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi from various sources will be showed to audience. Besides Folk Theater programs of Kashmiri, Dogri and Ladakhi Artists will be other attractions besides a Craft bazaar. Manhas while outlining the need of promotion, sustenance, dissemination and preservation of rich cultural heritage of the State with a view to bringing out cultural cohesion in the country, said that the Academy has declared the year 2009 as Year of Cultural Dialogue on the pattern of European Year of Cultural Dialogue-2008 aiming at respect of cultural diversity in the complex societies of today, mutual understanding in developing equal opportunities for all, working for social justice with focus on drawing the attention of the people across the globe to the importance of dialogue within diversity and between diverse cultures.
