The recruitment rally which commenced on February 16 shall last till February 22, 2009. During the rally the eligible candidates belonging to all the districts of Kashmir valley would be appointed for Soldier General Duty, Soldier General Duty (Non Matric), Soldier Clerk/Store Keeper, Soldier Technical, Soldier Nursing Assistant and Soldier Tradesmen. A Defence spokesman said that the Indian Army is looking to enroll the best and brightest young men from Kashmir. Naturally the process has to be merit based with giving a fair and impartial opportunity to all eligible Kashmiri youth. Some of candidates who have come here do not have their complete documents or are overage for selection even though wide publicity has been given. We will have many more similar rallies to give greater opportunity to all aspirants of J&K State. The rally is a step by the Army to ameliorate the conditions of unemployed youth of the Valley. The unprecedented, huge turnout for recruitment implies that the Indian Army has carved a niche for itself in the hearts and minds of Kashmiris. The youth has realized the importance of the Army and they want to join the same. The General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps has given very clear and implicit instructions that youth of this region must get all possible help and assistance for selection. The young aspirants will be helped to understand the process and the requirements of preparation for selection. Accordingly, all young people of this region can approach the nearest Army organizations for any help they seek. Those desirous for training can be given the benefit and assistance in this regard as is currently being done, the spokesman said. He further said that nearly 15,000 candidates have reported for recruitment. The screening process consists of verification of documents, putting the candidates through physical tests to include 1.6 Km run, pull ups, balance and crossing of 9 feet ditch and thereafter they undergo physical measurement of height, weight and chest. Finally they are medically examined by a team of doctors and those found fit will be permitted to appear in a Common Entrance Examination to be held at Baramulla (Rally site) on February 22, 2009. The rally was flagged off by the GOC, Dagger Division, DDG Recruiting (J&K and Punjab), Deputy GOC Dagger Division and Station Commander Baramulla. Selected candidates will not only get lifetime opportunity to serve the nation in the various Arms and Services of the Army but will also be able to serve the nation with honour and dignity, the spokesman maintained.
