Jammu lawyers abstain work

Jammu, Feb18- The Bar Association Jammu today claimed that strike call given by the Bar Association in protest against the anti-public amendments to section 41 and 309 of the Cr PC, received overwhelming response as the work in all the Courts including High Court Jammu Wing and District Court Janipur Complex, came to stand still with the lawyers remaining absent from the courts.
On this occasion, the BAJ President Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi strongly condemned the Government for providing adjudicatory authority to the police while confining the role of Magistrates only to Trial. Vice President Advocate Surinder Kour and Advocate Rajesh Thappa General Secretary BAJ also opposed the amendments.
The BAJ in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its President Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi also condoled the sad and untimely demise of Junior Advocate Jasbinder Singh and decided to suspend the work in all courts tomorrow on February 19, 2009 as a mark of respect to the departed soul. JNF
