Early Times Report

JAMMU, FEB 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today carried out an on-spot assessment of the key developmental projects in and around Jammu city as he inspected construction of Migrant Township at Jagti and Bus Stand at Khanpur in Nagrota, PSC building at Reshamnagar Colony, Haj House, Sitli Water Filtration Plant and Divisional Commissioner's office at Rail Head. He also reviewed up-gradation of Jammu Medical College and development and beautification of Tawi embankment.
The Chief Minister started his tour today by visiting under-construction Migrant Township at Jagti and Bus Stand at Khanpur, both in Nagrota. The Migrant colony is being constructed under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan at a cost of Rs.15.33 crore and the work is being executed by MAYTAS. As many as 5,242 flats are being constructed for Kashmiri Pandits at Jagti, Purkhoo, Nagrota and Muthi out of which 1,500 flats will be ready at Jagti by November this year. The Chief Minister was told that 1,024 flats have already been completed and allotted among the migrant families at Purkhoo, Nagrota and Muthi. The Jagti township will have 176 blocks and each block will house 24 flats with each flat having a covered area of 495 sq. ft. As many as 40 parks will be developed over 200 kanals of land as part of beautification of the township. Among the other infrastructure being created at the township, two schools, one 40-bedded hospital, commercial complex, community hall and a bus terminal will also be constructed within the township.
Asking the executing agency to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe, the Chief Minister said that before allotting the flats, school, hospital and other basic amenities should be in place in the township.
While reviewing the ongoing work at Bus Stand, Khanpur, being constructed by JDA at a cost of Rs. 13.86 crore, the Chief Minister said the bus stand will go a long way in decongesting the roads given the heavy inflow of traffic in the area. The bus terminal will have two yards and will accommodate nearly 450 vehicles at a time.
On his visit to the Sitli Water Filtration Plant, Phase II, the Chief Minister issued on-the-spot instructions to PHE, the executing agency, for repair of breach within 24 hours by carrying out round-the-clock work at the site. The leakage from the embankments of the Tawi river is hampering the construction work of the water supply project. The Phase II of the project is coming up at a cost of Rs.35.26 crore while as Rs.6.54 crore have been spent on the Phase I of the project. The completion of the project would add 5.4 million gallons of drinking water and would benefit about two lakh people of Jammu city including old city, New Plot, Janipur, Roopnagar, Banatalab, Bakshi Nagar, Patta Paloura, Dhok Paloura, Maheshpura, Prem Nagar, Muthi and parts of Rehari.
Mr. Abdullah inspected the ongoing beautification of Tawi embankment, Phase II, and instructed setting up of joggers' park having all facilities for morning walkers. The Phase II of the project is being executed by JDA at a cost of Rs. 15 crore. A total of Rs.14.78 core have been expended in the first phase of the project.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the work on Asian Development Bank-funded Boria Intake with a capacity of 1.8 MGD. The project is coming up at a cost of Rs. 7.5 crore and is being executed by Economic Reconstruction Agency.
Mr. Abdullah also reviewed various projects being executed by JKPCC which include construction of J&K Public Service Commission building at Reshamnagar Colony, construction of Divisional Commissioner's office at Rail Head and construction of super-specialty hospital complex of Jammu Medical College. He issued instructions for completion of all these projects on time.
