GDC Vijaypur celebrates National Youth Day

SAMBA, Jan 18:

Government Degree College Vijaypur, in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, on Thursday hosted an Essay writing competition to mark “National Youth Day.” The event was held in continuation to the series of programmes being organized by the College’s Red Ribbon Club under the guidance of Principal Dr. Vandana Gupta.
The Students of the College actively participated in the events enthusiastically pouring out their ideas and thoughts in their writings.
Earlier, the Program started with the welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Red Ribbon Club). She briefed students about the objective of celebrating National Youth Day. The celebration holds great significance as it aims to share the thoughts and principles of Swami Vivekananda among the youth of India. It serves as a means to awaken the enduring energy of the youth and encourage their significant efforts towards the development of the country.
Nearly 35 students of the College participated in the Essay writing competition. First position was secured by Kajal Choudhary of B.Com Sem-VI; second position was secured by Sharda Devi of B.A Sem-IV, while third position was achieved by Kavya Charak of B.Com Sem-VI . The consolation prize was given out to Chandan Kumar of BA Sem VI. The competition was judged by Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD Political Science), Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education), Prof. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri) and Prof. Sonia Devi (HOD Hindi).
Principal of the college, Dr. Vandana Gupta, in her address, highlighted the teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
She said that every year youth day is being celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of this great educationist and world renowned leader. She advised the students to follow the path of truth and Non-violence as advocated by Swami Vivekananda
The competition was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Red Ribbon Club) and co-coordinated by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, Prof. Renuka Kundal, Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo and Dr. Radhika Rasyal.
Trophies and certificates were distributed to all the participants and winners of the Painting and Essay writing competition. The refreshment was also distributed to the students during the programme.
