| Bar Headed Geese main attraction at bird exhibition | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19- A 3-day photo exhibition on the Gharana migratory birds, especially on Bar Headed Geese, was organized at Kalakendra here today by Bharat Pratibha Vikas Mandal(BPVM) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Protection Department and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Forest Minister Mian Altaf Ahmed while Chief Wildlife Warden A K Shrivastava was the guest of honour. The exhibition will remain open from 11 am to 5 pm every day till February 21. While inaugurating the exhibition, Mian Altaf appreciated the work done by Guldev Raj despite several constraints. He said Raj has presented the true picture of the migratory birds as also of the wetlands in a most befitting manner which the people missed so far. He said this exhibition will bring awareness among the masses to protect these birds and the wetlands adding that young generation will definitely get inspiration from the work of Guldev Raj. Chief Wildlife Warden in his speech gave detailed account of Gharana wetland and said that the government has a big plan to develop Gharana as a tourist village. He also appreciated the work of Guldev Raj. He said that on February 14, 1993 about 500 Bar Headed Geese birds were recorded by the Department in the Gharana and their number as of now has increased manifold. Earlier, R K Kalsotra Organizer in his welcome address said that photographs put up at the exhibition is the result of five years hard work of Guldev Raj. OP Sharma and Dr.Randeep Singh Parihar also appreciated the works of Raj and said that it is a good step towards preserving environment. A large number of people, including the children of RSPura Public School, visited the exhibition on the first day.
