Shiv Khori Mela from Feb 22

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 19- As usual the historic 3 day Shiv Khori Mela is commencing at Shiv Khori and Ransoo the base camp of the Shiv Khori Shrine in Pouni block of Reasi district of Jammu province from February 22 to 24, 2009.
The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal while chairing a meeting of officers here disclosed that necessary preparations for providing all infrastructural facilities to the visiting pilgrims are going on at war footing and all the concerned government departments which include Police, Road & Buildings, Public Health Engineering, Electric, Health & Medical Education, Information, Tourism, Handicrafts, Handloom, Floriculture, Horticulture and Rural Development are on job and making all necessary arrangements well in advance.
Dr Kotwal further revealed that prior to 2004, the annual yatra to the cave shrine was just one and a half lac but since the constitution of statutory board during December 2003, the flow of pilgrims has increased to a great extent and during 2008 over 5.30 lakh pilgrims had darshan of the holy Shiv Lingam and hundreds of other deities existing in the natural cave at Shiv Khori notwithstanding the disturbance of two-month long Jammu bandh during July and August, 2008.
The full fledged Shiv Khori Shrine Board has started its functioning at Shiv Khori from 2008 and the construction of 5 storeyed dormitory near the shrine has been started and construction work of the same up to third storey is nearing completion. This will provide further additional infrastructural facilities to the devotees not only during the mela days but also during the annual yatra. Number of other development projects which include Serai at Ransoo, shelter sheds all along the way with toilet facilities, electrification of the area and cave on modern techniques, augmentation of drinking water, development of parks and gardens and plantation of medicinal plants and further development of the area as per the map already designed by the tourism department are underway.
The Div Com said that free langers by various social organizations especially the local food like Sarsoon Kaa Saag and Maki Kee Roti would remain the other attractions during the mela days besides entertainment for the pilgrims by various cultural troupe of the state and free style dangal on last day of the mela at Ransoo would be other highlights during the mela days. He said that the Shiv Khori Shrine Board will put 5 permanent hoardings from Lakhanpur to the Shrine for information of the pilgrims/tourists.
Among others, District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr Sanjeev Verma attended the meeting.
