Jammu, February 19- To popularize floriculture as a profitable commercial activity for the farmers in Jammu division, an awareness programme was organized by the Department of Floriculture, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Flower Growers Association at Vijaypur, in Samba district today.
During the programme, farmers were made aware about the potential of the region to emerge as a prominent business hub in the international flower market. The farmers were informed about the new varieties of flowers which have greater adaptability in the agro-climatic conditions of the region and their exploitation as remunerative cash crops.
The farmer-friendly schemes and incentives being provided by the Floriculture department to boost flower cultivation in the State, besides the potential of the sector to emerge as a viable employment for the unemployed youth were also deliberated in the programme. It was outlined that State has suitable agro-climatic conditions which favour adoption of floriculture on a large scale.
Director, Floriculture, Jammu, Mr. K. K. Sharma, Deputy Director, Floriculture, Mr. R. S. Bali, President, J&K Flower Grower Association, S. Tajinder Singh, officers of the Floriculture department and large number of farmers were present on the occasion. |
