Job generation training begins in Jammu

Jammu, Feb 19: Continuing with its series of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs) on Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) across the State, the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) in association with Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has organized a training programme for 38 entrepreneurs at the Institute training hall here today.

The two-week programme was inaugurated by the Director JKEDI, Dr. M. I. Parray.

Addressing the participants, the Institute Director, Dr. M. I. Parray described the PMEGP scheme as entrepreneur friendly and urged them to draw maximum benefits from it. "This scheme has high subsidy component, which is beneficial for the potential entrepreneurs," Dr. Parray said.

He said the main objective of PMEGP was to provide self-employment to the unemployed youth of the State at their own place and help the existing entrepreneurs in business expansion and venturing into profitable ventures.

Asking the unemployed educated youth to look beyond government jobs, Dr. Parray said, "Unemployment is a serious challenge faced by the government which is not in a position to provide employment to everybody. But it is making every effort to promote entrepreneurship, which can accommodate the jobless," Highlighting the role of JKEDI in fostering entrepreneurial sector in the State, he said the Institute is making a serious effort to impart quality training to the youth interested in setting up their own ventures.

Later in the afternoon, Secretary, KVIB, Dr Abdul Rashid, also interacted with the participants. During the interaction, he asked them to draw maximum benefits from the programme for honing their skills to start self-employment ventures. He also impressed upon them to stop hankering after the government service and become self-reliant.

Dr Abdul Rashid also complimented the JKEDI for holding training programmes for the budding entrepreneurs. Deputy Chief Executive Officer KVIB, Mr. P.K Nargotra and district officer KVIB, Jammu and Samba, Mr. K. H Chib and other Board and Institute officials interacted with the participants saying that their participation in the programme was an indication of their seriousness to start their business ventures.

The course coordinator, Mr. Vishal Ray deliberated upon the important aspects of the programme while as another faculty member of JKEDI, Iftikhar Alam Nasrullah presented the vote of thanks
