Ministers review stock position in Doda

DODA/KISHTWAR, FEBRUARY 19 – The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand, accompanied by the Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, carried out an extensive tour of the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar and took a review of the stocks’ availability at both the places. The two districts have been cut off from the rest of the State due to massive landslide on NH-IB between Assar and Tungral on February 6.

The Ministers were accompanied by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal.

Asking people not to panic, the Ministers said sufficient stocks of essential commodities exist at Doda and Kishtwar districts, besides the Government has also started the process of airlifting supplies by IAF to further augment the stock position in the affected districts. They warned the black marketers against hoarding of essential commodities.

At Doda, Mr. Tara Chand was briefed that the district has adequate supplies of essential commodities which are being trans-shipped as per the requirements of the two districts. He convened a meeting of District Officers and reviewed the available stocking position.

While giving a brief' resume of the measures taken by the District administration in maintaining adequate stocks and trans-shipment of people, the Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Syed Sharief-ud-Din said that 1,025 quintals of wheat, 1,148 LPG cylinders, 760 quintals of vegetables, 253 quintals of fruits and 400 boxes of eggs, besides 248 quintals of other essential commodities have been brought to the district so far. He further said that 109 quintals of wheat, 11, 780 litres of kerosene, and 11,400 litres of diesel have also been airlifted to fulfil the immediate requirement of the area. Mr. Sharief also said that adequate transport facilities have been made available at either ends of the eroded stretch of Batote-Kishtwar National Highway for the convenience of the passengers and so far 3,160 passengers have travelled on foot across the area since road link was snapped.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that two health-care centres have been established on both ends of the eroded stretch to provide medical aid to the passengers. So far, 850 passengers have been provided health-care facility at these two camps, adding that adequate arrangements of drinking water have also been made.

The Ministers also reviewed measures being taken for construction of alternate road connectivity and precautionary measures to be taken in view of cracks developed at Kora Pani.

Mr. Tara Chand asked the concerned authorities to immediately take up the geological survey of the cracked area and submit the report of experts to the government without any delay so that necessary remedial steps could be taken.

On the occasion, Mr. Sagar also took a review meeting of the Rural Development Department in Doda and called for proper implementation of the welfare schemes so that the benefit of these percolate to the deserving people. It was also given out that around 29.70 crore have been earmarked under NREGA in the district and 50, 000 job cards have been given.

Mr. Sagar impressed upon the officers to make payments in a transparent manner without any delay. He directed the concerned authorities to speed up the implementation of the schemes which are time-bound. “We should be very quick in implementing various welfare schemes so that the scheme and the funds so earmarked are utilized to the maximum and benefit goes to the target population, he maintained.

The Ministers also visited Kishtwar district and took a review meeting of supply position in the district.

MLA, Kishtwar, Mr. Sajad Ahmad Kichloo and Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Mr. Sudharshan Sharma were also present on the occasion. They briefed the Ministers about the current situation in the district.
