| Backward areas on priority: Omar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, February 19 - The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Thursday said that Government is committed to the balanced and equitable development of the State, adding that focus would be on the upliftment of hilly, far-flung and hitherto underdeveloped areas. He said due attention will be paid to ameliorate the lot of the people in backward and downtrodden areas. Mr. Omer was interacting with the deputations from Sonawari, Gool, Arnas, Poonch, Gurez and representatives of Gujjar and Backarwal Community. He said that directions have already been given to the district and provincial administration to concentrate attention on upgrading basic amenities in the rural and far-flung areas, besides ensuring growth and development of education. A deputation led by MLA Sonawari, Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone, highlighted the demands of the people of Sonawari Constituency for faster development of the area and economic well-being of the people. The deputation among other demands requested for a degree college in the Sonawari Constituency. A deputation from Gurez led by Mr. Nazir Ahmad Gurezi requested the Chief Minister for directing Police Department to distribute the forms for police recruitment to the candidates of Gurez area in Gurez and also conduct the interviews there. The deputation also requested for special exams for the matriculation students of Gurez who could not appear in the recently held examinations due to heavy snowfall and disruption of communication. The deputation also requested for airlifting of Gurez bound passengers from Bandipora. A deputation of Gool-Arnas led by Mr. G. H. Mughal presented a list of development demands including a request for setting up of a degree college in the area, providing tehsil status to Arnas and launching work on Sawalakote Hydle Project. The deputation from Poonch led by Raja Shahzad Ahmad Khan apprised the Chief Minister of the development needs of Poonch district and requested for measures to upgrade communication, PHE, electricity and other facilities in the district. A deputation of the representatives of Gujjar and Backarwal Community of the State also called on Chief Minister and gave a resume of their development demands and requested for special package for the development of the community. The Chief Minister gave patient hearing to the deputations and assured that due consideration would be given to the demands presented by the deputations.
