Krishi Vigyan Kendra, empowers rural youths through ARYA project

REASI, Jan 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, operating under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, recently conducted a training program on "Commercial Floriculture" at the KVK Reasi campus as part of the Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture (ARYA) project. The event aimed to empower rural youths and boost agri-entrepreneurship in the region. The program was organized under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi, and received guidance from Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the ARYA project. He emphasized agri-entrepreneurship development among rural youths and highlighted the importance of commercial floriculture in enhancing income and employment opportunities in hilly areas. Dr. Banarsi Lal provided insights into scientific cultivation practices for marigold and advised on value addition in floriculture. Dr. Lalit Upadhyay encouraged rural youths to explore opportunities in commercial floriculture, citing it as a potential source of income and employment. Dr. Arvinder Kumar emphasized that floral crop farming could generate additional income and employment for rural youths. Dr. Lobzang Stanzen, Subject Matter Specialist, discussed climate-resilient agriculture practices and encouraged rural youths to adopt commercial farming of marigold. He also highlighted the importance of weather forecasting and agro-advisories for better profits. Participants appreciated KVK, Reasi, for its efforts in organizing training programs for the welfare of farmers in the area. They expressed gratitude to KVK scientists for the valuable training, especially tailored for rural youths.
