Golden Girl" Shreya wins another Gold for JK UT, Silver for Rishika Khajuria

JAMMU, Jan 29: Continuing her spree of winning medals and excelling at international and national level, talented swashbuckling fencer Shreya Gupta has again brought laurels to J&K UT by winning Gold medal at 34th Senior National Fencing Championship being held at Guwahati w.e.f 28th January to 31st January 2024 at Guwahati in Assam. On first day of competition Shreya giving a scintillating performance defeated Rishika Khajuria also from JK UT in one sided finish by a margin of 15-6. In semi-final, Shreya got better of Sanya of Punjab convincingly by a score of 15-12 whereas in medal bout Shreya outclassed Kashish Barad of Maharashtra by 15-13. Pertinent to add here that Shreya had also recently won her third national junior title at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Today's Gold is Shreya's record 17th Gold medal at National level and she is the first women player from JK UT to win senior national gold and thereby created history. Silver medal won by Rishika was the other highlight of opening day which was dominated by these fencers. Secretary J&K Sports council Nuzhat Gull has lauded the performance of Shreya Gupta and Rishika and said Shreya's commitment towards the game is appreciable and her performance at national level and international levels is exemplary and she also lauded the performance of Rishika Khajuria. Secretary madam said J&K UT under the leadership of hon'ble LG Manoj Sinha is excelling in every field and sports touching great heights. There is no dearth of infrastructure and facilities being provided to sportspersons.
She complimented fencing coach Shotu Lal Sharma for working tirelessly and bringing out best from the fencers. International player as well as referee Rashid Ahmed Choudhry and International player Ujwal Gupta also congratulated for marvelous achievement of both the fencers. These players said that performance of players like Shreya and Rishika will help in spreading fencing game to grass root.
