1/30/2024 10:47:09 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 30: Kavinder Gupta, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister has welcomed the announcement by the Union minister Shantanu Thakur the other day that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) would be implemented in the country within a week. He said that this decision reflects the true humanitarian face of the BJP Govt at the Centre. The senior BJP leader expressed this in a statement issued to media here today.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CAA was enacted by the BJP-led government at the Centre in 2019 after a lot of uproar in the Parliament. This legislation was passed with majority vote by the Parliament of the nation in order to provide Indian citizenship to the aforesaid people who entered India before December 31, 2014.
Kavinder Gupta said that the passing of the CAA by the Parliament and now its implementation reflect the strong commitment of the PM Modi led BJP Govt at the Centre towards upholding the basic humanitarian values and principles in order to safeguard the lives of thousands and lakhs of Indians living in the concerning nations mentioned under the Act. He said that the step stands justified especially in view of the fact that the population of the Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians in countries in countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan that formed a substantial percentage in these nations stands decimated to bare minimum due to persecution be it through conversions or annihilations.
