Jammu, Jan 30: Martyr's Day was solemnly observed today at the office of the Chief Education Officer, Jammu, as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the anniversary of his death. Chief Education Officer, Sh. Jagdeep Kumar Padha, led the commemoration and highlighted the significance of the day. India observes Martyrs' Day on January 30 each year, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. Gandhi Ji, a global icon for leading India's freedom movement, was tragically shot dead on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse. On that fateful day, he was en route to address a prayer meeting at Birla Bhawan in Delhi. Sh. Jagdeep Kumar Padha emphasized the principles of truth and non-violence that Mahatma Gandhi espoused during the freedom struggle against British rule. He urged everyone to follow the path of peace and righteousness in their endeavors. In a poignant moment of remembrance, a two-minute silence was observed by Sh. J.K. Padha, Sh. T.S. Billowaria, District Education Planning Officer, Jammu, and all officers and officials present. The silence was dedicated to honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the relentless pursuit of India's freedom. The observance of Martyr's Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for the country's independence. |
