JAMMU, Feb 1: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Government College for Women (GCW), Bhagwati Nagar, recently concluded a seven-day special winter camp from January 25th to February 1st, 2024, under the patronage of the college principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
The camp kicked off with an inaugural function marked by a lively ceremony, including the ceremonial lamp lighting by the esteemed college principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol. The opening day showcased the diverse talents of NSS volunteers through cultural performances, including dance and music.
On the second day, NSS volunteers celebrated Republic Day by witnessing the flag hoisting, parade, and other cultural programs at MA Stadium. This exposure aimed at instilling a sense of patriotism and national pride among the participants.
The third day witnessed a commendable initiative as NSS volunteers raised awareness about road safety at the busy junction of the 4th bridge of Jammu Tawi River in Bhagwati Nagar. Banners and slogans were utilized to convey important messages.
The fourth day of the winter camp focused on female menstrual health and hygiene. NSS volunteers distributed sanitary napkins among women in the slum area, contributing to better menstrual hygiene management and fostering community health. The fifth day offered participants an enriching and spiritual experience with a visit to a Gurudwara, paying homage to freedom fighters who played a crucial role in India's independence.
The sixth day involved a door-to-door campaign on cybersecurity awareness. NSS volunteers aimed to sensitize internet users on safeguarding against cyber frauds and cybercrimes, promoting a safer online environment.
On the seventh and final day, a valedictory function was organized, presided over by the In-charge principal of the college, Nisha Bhagat. The program included singing of the NSS song, report presentation, and cultural performances. Prof. Nisha Bhagat appreciated the efforts of NSS officers and students, concluding the program with the National Anthem and patriotic slogans.
The successful execution of the winter camp was credited to the NSS committee members, including Dr. KamalDeep Singh, Dr. Poonam Kumari, and Dr. Rekha Devi (PTI). The camp not only showcased the commitment of the NSS unit to community service but also provided a platform for holistic development and cultural exchange among participants.
