| RBI staff on strike | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20- The work at Reserve Bank of India, Jammu came to a standstill here today with all the staff members from Class IV up to the level of senior most officers, under the banner of United Forum Of RBI Officers and Employees, resorting to mass casual leave to press for their demand of restoration of Pension Updation Scheme that the Bank had introduced with effect from November 1, 2002 and had recently withdrawn unilaterally at the behest of Union Finance Ministry, subjecting 4000 odd retirees of the Bank to reduction of pension ranging from Rs.1000 to Rs.6000 per month. The participation in the mass casual leave program at Jammu was 100%. All the staff members assembled at the gate of Reserve Bank office building at Rail Head Complex here today and shouted slogans against the discriminatory policies of the Ministry of Finance and the top management of Reserve Bank of India. This is the second occasion in the recent past that the staff of Reserve Bank of India has resorted to mass casual leave. Earlier, the staff had taken mass casual leave over the same issue on October 21, 2008. Speakers on the occasion strongly castigated the Babus of the Union Finance Ministry for denying the benefit of pension updation to the staff of Reserve Bank of India although they were themselves enjoying the said benefit. ‘When four million Central Government pensioners and a larger number of state government pensioners were periodically getting their pension upwardly revised, it was a gross injustice to deny the same to the RBI retirees’, they said. The speakers hoped that good sense will prevail on Government of India and the Reserve Bank top management to come forward for satisfactory settlement of the issue of pension updation of RBI retirees. Those who spoke on the occasion include Supen Kumar, Chief Secretary, Reserve Bank Workers Union, Ravi Kant Sharma, Secretary, Reserve Bank Employees Association, UC Lohani, President, Reserve Bank of India Officers Association, R.K.Meena, Secretary, Reserve Bank of India Officers Association, KK Sharma, Secretary, All India Reserve Bank Officers Association and Ravinder Kaul, President, All India Reserve Bank Officers Association. The mass casual leave program was observed throughout the country with the entire staff of Reserve Bank staying away from work and thus bringing clearing of cheques including RTGS services, Cash Department transactions, Forex transactions, CBLO and Repo operations and many other banking services to a complete halt. The employees held Government of India and top management of Reserve Bank solely responsible for the inconvenience caused to the general public due to the mass casual leave.
