Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 1: To counter agitation launched by non-BJP groups in support of statehood and the sixth schedule, the Union Government is seriously thinking of creating more districts in Ladakh.
Highly placed sources said that the announcement of at least two new districts namely Zanskar in Kargil and Nubra in Leh is likely to be made before the implementation of the model code of conduct of the Lok Sabha elections.
While the BJP has been demanding the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, the Union Government is likely to announce two new administrative units to counter agitating groups that are repeatedly targeting the BJP.

The demand for the creation of more districts in Ladakh has repeatedly been made by various social and political organizations, including the local unit of BJP of Ladakh.
According to reports, Lok Sabha Member from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has recently met the Union Home Minister in New Delhi and again raised the demand for the creation of new administrative districts for remote Zanskar and Nubra areas, apart from other regions, in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
“The demand for the creation of new administrative districts is under the active consideration of the Union Government and there is a possibility that a formal announcement in this regard is expected to be made before March 2024 when the model code of conduct is likely to come into force,” reports said.
