| Arms recovery drops as security improves | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20- Following sharp decline in the militancy related activities there has been marked drop in the recovery of arms and ammunition from the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that during the last two months the security forces recovered 96 weapons, including 14 assault rifles, pistols and revolvers. During this period no highly sophisticated weapons including UMG and RPG were recovered. Sources said that between January 2009 and the middle of February, 58 magazines of assault rifles, 12 magazines of pistols and revolvers were seized from the militants. They said the entire recovery was just a trickle when compared to the corresponding period last year or a year before when the security forces recovered more than 125 weapons and 240 magazines of assault rifles and pistols/revolvers. Official sources said that the story was the same regarding the seizure and recovery of explosives. They said that during the last two months 15 kgs of RDX, 85 kgs of other explosives, eight IEDs, 36 grenades and 21 detonators recovered when during the corresponding period last year more than 40 kgs of RDX, 35 kgs of other explosives, 20 grenades and 165 detonators were recovered by the security forces. The sources said that all this indicated a positive change.
