| BMS demands revision of minimum wages of workers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 20- Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today organized a massive rally of public sector workers under the chairmanship of Lakshman Ravinder Singh in which hundreds of workers from different factories participated and discussed various issues of the labour class. Addressing the rally at Bari Brahmana, Vijay Chandel, a senior leader of the Sangh, alleged that workers were being exploited badly by the so-called contractor labour system and the licenses under the Contract Labour Act 1970 are being issued to the so called labour supplier without verification of physical work as laid down under the Act and demanded an investigation in the matter. He also called for cancellation of so called licenses issued to the labour suppliers. Another senior BMS leader demanded revision in minimum wages for private sector workers as per the minimum wages act 1948, besides making provision in the SRO that those workers who have worked for more than five years are treated as skilled workers. He also demanded grant of bonus to all the workers. Harbans Singh Choudhary demanded that field staff of Labour Department, including Provident Fund and ESI, be made accountable for violation of labour laws. On this occasion, Shamsher Chand was nominated as President for district Samba with Swarna Choudhry as vice president. Kishore Kumar was nominated as secretary, Yog Raj Singh as assistant secretary, Ravinder Singh Jamwal Cashier, Harbans Lal publicity secretary while Om Dass, Onkar Sharma, Tilak Raj, Surjeet Kumar and Nanak Chand as members of the district committee.
