JAMMU, FEBRUARY 20 - Various deputations today called on the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand and apprised him of the problems of their respective areas. A delegation, led by MLA and former Union Minister, Mr. Chaman Lal Gupta met Mr. Tara Chand and called for beautification of Jammu city in view of the large number of Vaishno Devi pilgrims that visit the city annually. He said that Floriculture department should work out a strategy to beautify the existing public parks, besides developing new green spots at various locations in the city. This, he said, would leave a lasting impression among the visiting pilgrims, besides serving as lungs for the local populace who are facing the problem of growing pollution.
Another deputation, led by MLA, Kulgam, Mr. M. Y. Tarigami called on the Deputy Chief Minister and informed him of the long-pending problems of Kulgam district. Appreciating the steps taken by the new Government for augmenting urban infrastructure and the drive launched against encroachments, Mr. Tarigami said the personal dedication shown by Mr. Tara Chand in streamlining urban expansion has been well taken by the public.
Mr. Tara Chand said the present dispensation is focussing on better coordination between the different agencies to ensure growth of civic amenities to match urbanisation. He said the Government is chalking out a plan to check mushrooming of urban slums and ensure better planning of new colonies.
MLA, Billawar, Dr. Manohar Lal also met the Deputy Chief Minister and highlighted the problems being faced by the residents of his town. He sought additional funds for augmenting water supply and highlighted the need of improving street-lighting through installation of mast lights at different focal points.
Mr. Tara Chand assured the deputationists that all their demands would be looked into on priority. He said that Government has already brought new towns and cities under the ambit of Central and State Government urban infrastructure development schemes and their results would soon become visible on ground.
