Early Times Report JAMMU, FEBRUARY 20 -The traffic police in coordination with district police conducted a joint traffic checking drive across the state wherein 16335 challans were made in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Awantipura, Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Leh, Kargil, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Ramban, Poonch and Rajouri under Motor Vehicles Act/Rules. Similarly, during the month of January 2009, 942 challans have been made by district police Udhampur, Doda, Samba and Rajouri thereby realizing a compound fine of Rs.1,04,305. Continuing its specific drive against offenders of Motor Vehicle Act/Rules, the traffic police has made 2249 challans during the first week of February 2009. Against offenders using improper number plates, without using crash helmet, using black films and inter-state buses, the traffic police has made 2279 challans under Motor Vehicle Act/Rules and also realized on amount of Rs.49,700 as fine on defaulters. These actions shall be a continuous feature all over the state and the traffic department informed the general masses to make use of seat belts while driving, not to use coloured number plates, remove dark films of their vehicles, desist from using mobile phone while driving, wear helmets on two wheelers and avoid triple riding and over speeding.
