KP Delegation Meets New Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner
2/6/2024 10:56:34 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 6: Today, a delegation comprising prominent socio-political leaders of the Kashmiri Pandit community from various camps and non-camps in Jammu convened at the office chamber of the New Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) J&K, Dr. Arvind Karwani, in Jammu. Led by M.K. Yogi, a senior leader of the community, the delegation engaged in discussions regarding the genuine issues faced by all migrants living in exile for over thirty-four years.
During the meeting, M.K. Yogi presented a bouquet to the new Commissioner and brought to his attention several pressing concerns of the community. These included the enhancement of monthly cash assistance, allotment of accommodation to employees under the PM package, implementation of the migrant immovable Property Act 1997, and construction of more quarters for non-camp migrants.
Yogi urged the Commissioner to take up these issues with the Lt. Governor of J&K for early resolution. Other members of the delegation, including Vinod Pandita and Vishal Jotshi, emphasized the need for a concrete and time-bound rehabilitation policy for Kashmiri Pandits returning to the valley, along with the creation of new job opportunities for educated unemployed migrant youth.
Pintoo Ji, Ashwani Bhat, Tej Dhar, and other activists highlighted problems in various camps, such as water and electricity supply, internal repairs, healthcare provisions, and infrastructure maintenance.
Dr. Arvind Karwani, the Relief Commissioner, expressed gratitude to the delegates and assured them of his commitment to alleviating the community’s suffering. Dr. Riyaz Ahmed and Ritika Arora, ACR Relief, were also present during the meeting.
In closing, a vote of thanks was delivered by M.K. Yogi, acknowledging the fruitful discussion and the Commissioner’s assurances.
